A beautiful patek ellipse Ref. 3848 featuring a very rare and attractive breguet numerals dial.
The ellipse is a fusion of a circle and a rectangle, and the case’s aspect ratio (1:1.6181) is the “Golden Ratio,” which was discovered by Greek mathematicians and is the basis of its name. The Golden Ratio, also known as the “Sacred Ratio,” can be found in some of the greatest works of architecture and painting to this day.
Patek’s ellipse was first introduced in 1968 and was a significant departure from the traditional patek’s design in a good way! It made a huge impact and is a very attractive design imo. The ref. 3848 Ellipse was launched in 1977 and stayed in production until 1998. It replaced the earlier Ellipse ref. 3648. The cases were made by Favres Perret and it utilized the prestigious caliber 215 bearing the geneve seal. It measures a perfect 27 x 32mm and hugs the wrist perfectly. Wearability is top with the ellipse.
