The mercator was created in 1994 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of gerardus mercator. What was supposed to be a limited run of 50 examples, huge demand from clients kept it in production for a good decade! The platinum examples are very rare(number not exactly known)! The dial is etched by hand by two craftsmen jean and lucie grenbugge and is filled with enamel. The result is a 3D like dial with back ground of many regions of the world! It is a stunner and has to be witnessed in person! There are many variations of this ref like different regions, metals, cloisonne etc
